Text to STEP
Describe a part in plain English. Cad Bot builds a real B-rep solid and exports STEP you can edit in CAD. Same generator as text to CAD, locked to the CAD format.
Sign in to generate. 3 free generations per day on an account. Parameter edits are always free. Adding features uses a generation.
What is a STEP file
STEP is the interchange format CAD tools actually edit: a boundary representation with precise faces, not a bag of triangles. You can measure, fillet, and boolean it in Fusion 360, SolidWorks, FreeCAD, Onshape and most CAM packages.
From text prompt to an editable solid
Your sentence becomes a strict part specification, then a deterministic OpenCascade compiler builds the solid. The numbers you type are the numbers in the file. Parameter sliders rebuild the same solid without asking the AI again. Gears are spur-only. External ISO threads on a cylinder are modeled; holes are drilled or tap-drilled (no internal thread).
When to use STEP vs STL vs DXF
Editing in CAD first: STEP, this page. Printing tonight: text to STL. A 2D shop drawing AutoCAD can open: text to DXF or text to DWG. All of these come from the same solid — this page just puts the CAD file in front.
Questions
- What is a STEP file?
- STEP (ISO 10303) is a CAD-editable solid: faces, edges and exact dimensions, not triangles. Open it in Fusion 360, SolidWorks, FreeCAD or any package that reads .step / .stp.
- STEP vs STL?
- STL is a triangulated mesh for 3D printers. STEP keeps the B-rep solid so you can still change holes, fillets and sizes in CAD. This page locks the download to STEP; the same generator also builds STL.
- Can I still 3D print the part?
- Yes. Generate here, then use the Text to STL page if you only want the mesh, or start on the home page where both downloads are shown.
- Does this cost extra?
- No extra format fee — same free allowance as the main generator (3 per day after you sign in). Paid generations are billed through Waffo. Parameter edits are free.
