Compiled CAD vs AI mesh
Cad Bot uses a language model to parse your sentence, then a compiler to build a CAD solid. A text-to-mesh model samples a triangle surface. They look similar in a screenshot. They are not the same file, and they are not interchangeable on a CNC or in SolidWorks.
| Cad Bot | Typical AI mesh | |
|---|---|---|
| Output | B-rep STEP + STL + ISO drawing | Triangles (often OBJ / GLB) |
| “12 mm hole, 40 mm apart” | Those numbers in the solid | Approximately that shape |
| Edit in CAD | STEP opens as a solid | You rebuild or shrinkwrap |
| Out of catalog | Refused with a reason | Usually still emits a mesh |
| Organic / character art | Out of scope | Often in scope |
What Cad Bot is not claiming
Cad Bot is not the first text-to-CAD product. It is not a general 3D diffusion model. It will not sculpt a shoe, a car body, or an assembly from vibes. Those jobs belong to mesh generators or to a human in CAD. The difference we can verify is the compiler: in-scope names, refused names, coverage count, and exact stated dimensions. See the compiler fact sheet.
